My calculation Current = 32A.cable is usually installed inside wall (reference method A2 from iec)ambiden temperature 30 celsius. For this parameters I get at least 6mm2 Can someone please explain why they recommend 4mm2 or I am making mistake. Top Bottom. 08 January 2014 10 20 pm. darkop.
The cable size is equal to the 1.5 times of the full load current of the motor/load. Hence the cable rating formula can be written as Cable size = 1.5 x Full Load Current. Let’s we calculate required cable sizing for 5.5kW/7.5HP motor which is operated at 415V 0.86pf. From our cable size calculator the full load current of the 5.5kW motor
The solar cable sometimes known as a PV Wire or PV Cable is the most important cable of any PV solar system. The solar panels generate electricity which has to be transferred elsewherethis is where solar cables come in. The biggest distinction in terms of size is between solar cable 4mm and solar cable 6mm.
According to ANZ regulations etc. Thanks Craig. 4mm2 with a 32A would be pushing it. I dont usually put larger than a 25A on. Id upsize to 6mm for 32A. Off the top of my head 4mm TPS flat would have a CCC of about 28 or 29A when run through a roof with insulation etc (heat being the de-rating factor here).
It appears 4.0mm sq H07RN-F extension leads are available (sold) that are rated at 32A. but I question whether they meet BS7671 Table 4Fxx. Table 4F1A (60 degC) states Current Carrying Capacity for 1 x 2 core cable is only 30A and therefore to carry 32A extension leads should use 6.0mm sq cable. However Table 4F3A states the Current Carrying Capacity of 4.0mm cable is 32A.

Where it is intended to group a cable in this table with other cables the cable should be rated at the lowest of the maximum operating temperatures of any of the cables in the group (see Regulation 512.1.5). For cables having flexible conductors see section 2.4 of this appendix for adjustment factors for current-carrying capacity and voltage drop.

The Current Carrying Capacity of SWA Cable dictates the current rating as well as other technical specifications of a certain type of SWA Cable. In this case the specifications are dictated by the Core count. Below are links to pages which will display a table of technical specifications for SWA Cable dependant on core amount -.

Cable sizes should only be used as a guideline and if not using HO7RNF cable all figures should be checked against the manufacturers data sheet. Also all cables should be fused / current protected to their max rating or less.
The OSG states that 4mm SUP 2 /SUP (in trunking) can take up to 30A which is absolutely fine for my shed but the MCB obviously has to trip at less than the current carrying capacity of the cable so it should be between 22A (max of the 2 way consumer unit in shed) and 30A.
